ABA is the most used, most documented, most recommended intervention for autism. It is constantly evolving and improving (verbal behavior techniques) and almost all children respond positively.
When should we start?
As soon as possible when autism is suspected.

How intensive should ABA be?
In Lovaas’ 1987 study the intensive group received over 40 hours/week therapy. The more ABA the better. The family should learn to implement ABA procedures/training even in off-therapy time.
Where can I find an ABA consultant?
The few local consultants (ABA Provider) are often booked out. Keep trying and get on a waiting list if possible. Otherwise you may have to find a consultant from outside of Switzerland.
How much does ABA cost?
Estimates for one year of an intensive ABA program run from SFr.25 – 50,000. It depends on the consultant/supervisor/therapist fees that can vary widely.
How do I pay for ABA?
This is a tough one. The IV does not always cover ABA therapy yet, but one should always first try to bill the ABA costs to the IV. If you fit the criteria you may be eligible to receive funding for ABA under IV Rundschreiben 344. You should be receiving some IV (Swiss Disability Insurance for ‘Hilflosentschädigung-Hauspflegehilfe’) money that could be put towards ABA. There are also foundations (Stiftungen) that will help support some ABA programs. You can try to find volunteers or students that will work for less money.
Should I consider other issues connected with autism?
Yes, we need to consider bio-medical issues in autism such as heavy metal toxicity, vaccine reactions, diet issues such as allergies and intolerances (gluten-casein free diet can often help symptoms) sleep rhythm and much more. A physically ill, sleep-deprived child will benefit much less from ABA than a healthy thriving one.
